During 2007 we purchased a brand new Husqvarna Ride-on BZ34D zero turn mower (as below) which now enables us to mow up to 20,000m² per day.
All our commercial mowers are mulchers, which break up all clippings into very fine particles. The mulch clippings can then break down quickly, releasing nutrients into the soil naturally, therefore saving on fertilizer costs. The mulching also reduces evaporation of moisture from the soil, which reduces watering costs. The method of mulching helps to maintain temperatures extremes, protecting the roots of the grass.
Research has shown that lawns are usually cut too short and like other plant life the grass relies on photosynthesis to regenerate and survive. Since the grass has been cut too short the grass blade size can seriously effect the lawn by making is susceptible to disease and encouraging more competitive weeds to take over.
Cutting the lawn short exposes the soil to greater evaporation and temperature extremes; there is also erosion to consider.
The facts are that raising the height of the grass cutting and using the mulching mowing techniques is the best practice to neutralise to achieve a healthier and more attractive lawn with the least amount of work.
